S5E2: Parkinson’s Disease in the ED - Geriatric EM
Welcome back to another episode of TheCase.Report! In this episode we dive into all things Parkinson’s disease (PD) with 3 of our finest NCHDs - Liam Loughrey, Sarah Daubaras and Conor O’Gara.
They keep their differentials broad as they work up and diligently manage a 78-year-old man presenting with an acute behavioural change on a background of PD. This episode is bursting with clinical pearls as we discuss what to consider and what not to miss in PD patients. It’s not one to miss!
We’re delighted to have Dr Barry Keane, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at St James’ University Hospital join us this month as our Adult in the Room. With a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine under his belt there is no one better to correct our homework and offer some pearls of wisdom into the complexities of Geriatric Emergency Medicine, and Parkinson’s Disease in the ED.
S4E8: Fractured Neck of Femur - Geriatric EM
With over 3900 NOFs reported in Ireland in 2021, these fractures represent a significant burden of morbidity and mortality, particularly for our older patients. Early recognition of these patients coupled with meticulous management, both in the ED and beyond, is instrumental in ensuring optimal outcomes.

Time to enter the Echo Chamber! Callum kickstarts the first ultrasound bonus of the season, welcoming Dr Mai Nguyen, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at University Hospital Limerick, to join him.
Dr Nguyen is the Director of Ultrasound Training for Emergency Medicine in the hospital, an EGLS instructor and a Level 1 Ultrasound Trainer. In short, the perfect guest to run through all things eFAST in the approach to a trauma patient. If you didn’t want to build your POCUS skills before, you sure will after this episode!

Welcome back to another episode of thecase.report! After a small episode hiatus, we’re back talking all things Trauma. Following on from our South Africa Special II last month, we’re back in Ireland in a rural ED where Eoghan, the only Reg on in ED this evening gets a pre-alert about a female involved in a road traffic collision with prolonged extraction.
From the seatbelt sign and it’s association with intra-abdominal pathology to the “Hateful Eight” and the electrolytes in red cells, Callum, Eoghan and our AITR Dr Sean Croughan are doing a deep dive of managing the unstable trauma patient.
